Flight Paths

A multi-media production inspired by blind female performers of medieval Japan

Flight Paths showcases the incredible skills of four visually impaired artists as they explore stories of migration to the UK, both physically and verbally.

In this collaboration with Yellow Earth and Extant, the performers move between tradition and modernity, weaving together personal stories of blind artists from Japan, Nigeria and the USA.

Flight Paths combines movement, music, narrative and creative audio description using new sound technology.

In August 2020, the stage production was brought to life on screen for a new digital retelling, commissioned by The Space. With a Goze as your guide and narrator, create and navigate your own pathway through the story. Experience here

“For those blind or partially sighted, this aims to offer a richer than usual experience. In doing so, it also gives the whole audience an unusual and entertaining presentation of international talent.” British Theatre Guide

“Through the aerial and movement work by Victoria Amedume, we get another dramatic tone that literally lifts us up into another world. Flight Paths is a moving work of theatre art that keeps on resonating long after the final departure of the performers.” East Midlands Theatre
