Vicki Amedume

“I fell in love with Circus because of it’s artistry. I stay in love with circus because it is a space for people to explore human connection – and to see the potential for the extraordinary in other human beings.”

Vicki Amedume initially trained as a research scientist, entering the circus world in 1997. She worked as an aerialist across many different circus contexts, from large scale outdoor spaces, to traditional tented touring circuses, to intimate indoor venues. It was following this experience that she founded Upswing in 2006.

Vicki was Associate Director of Greenwich+Docklands International Festival in 2004-2006, and undertakes extensive circus and aerial consultation work for a range of companies including RSC, National Theatre of Scotland, New Vic Theatre, Royal Exchange and Cameron Mackintosh Productions. Vicki is Vice-Chair of The Albany, Deptford, a trustee of the Baring Foundation and a member of the Equity Variety Entertainers and Circus Committee.
